Comments
Accompanying these grades will be a comment. Because I will be giving your child a grade for different sub-areas within each subject area (for example, for Mathematics I am reporting on three sub-areas: 1) Knowledge and Understanding, 2)Mental Math and Estimation and 3)Problem Solving), my comment each term will focus on one area so that you a provided with a comment that reflects each sub-area (or as many of them possible) over the year. It is my goal to comment on what your child is doing well, what they are working towards and the next steps they will take to improve. If you are concerned about a grade and you find that the comment for that term does not reflect the grade, please contact me.

Informal reports: This includes the letter and suggestions I sent early this year that indicated area(s) I feel require extra work at home at this time. I will also send home e-mails and notes in the agenda when your child has had an exceptional day, moved up a reading level, wrote a great story, etc. This is as much to celebrate your child's progress with them as it is for your information.
Reading Levels
Here are the level ranges for students beginning and ending grade 3:
English: Coming it at a level "M", attaining a level "O" by the end of June of this academic year.
French: Coming in at a level "10", attaining a level "14" by the end of June of this academic year.
In your child's home reading bag, you will find two pieces of coloured paper (the orange one indicates your child's current reading level in French and the green one indicates your child's current reading level in English). I will replace the respective coloured paper when your child changes a level. This system is in place so that your child can independently choose appropriate home reading books, and so that you are aware of their reading levels at all times. Please leave these pieces of paper in their home reading ziplock bag and if they need to be replaced, please let me know.

Adapted Learning Plans (ALP)
If your child is requiring extra support across multiple subject areas, an ALP will be put in place to identify areas that need extra support and communicate what is being put in place to support them at school. I am working on ALP's now (early October 2015) and I will be sending them home as soon as I am done.
